My movie review(The Wizard of Oz)

My movie review -The Wizard of Oz

Our class watched the movie named "The Wizard of Oz" yesterday. Its genre was fantasy. There were the Scarecrow, the Lion, the Tin Man, Glinda, Toto, and the Wicked Witch of the West. The tornado took Dorothy and Toto to the Great Land of Oz. Dorothy met the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Lion, who wanted to get a brain, a heart, and courage. They arrived at Emerald City to get what they want from the Wizard of Oz. They all got what they wanted. And Dorothy and Toto came back to the Kansas by ruby shoes.
After watching the movie, I thought about my opinion about the movie. I thought the good thing about movie is that we can learn many things through this movie. I learned bravery from the lion and other characters who saved Dorothy with bravery. I learned cooperation from their team work at the end, and leadership from Dorothy who always helps other team members. But there were also bad things about this movie, too. I couldn't understand the story clearly. I couldn't understand why is the Wizard of Oz in Emerald City? I couldn't understand his story. Also, the ending part (the saving) was too short and simple. I think it's an important part. But the movie didn't describe it in details. I couldn't clearly understand the characteristic of Oz.
I learned two big things through this movie. First one is cooperation. Dorothy and her friends helped each other and finally achieved what they wanted through teamwork. If Dorothy's friends didn't come and help her, she would be in trouble at the witch's castle. Second one is that if you really want something, it will come. All friends of Dorothy and Dorothy wanted something very hopeful, and I think it is one of the reasons how they got what they wanted. If I could change this movie, I would describe the characteristics more clearly. I am on the fence about this movie, because we can learn many things, but we can't clearly understand the story.

30-day Goals

Yesterday, my class and I watched the TED video about 30-day challenges. I was surprised at his challenges and achievements. So I tried to make goals for 30 days. I want to tell you what my goals and plans are.
My first goal is to read three English novels which are more than 200 pages. I will read at least 20 pages a day. I will check how many pages I read everyday. I think I'll be able to do it, because I have finished a English novel which is more than 200 pages in a week before. I think it will help me to improve my reading skill, vocabulary and writing skill. I will read the books in the morning, at night and at the school.
My second goal is to write a 100 pages(12 points) English story. I will think about how to write it for three days. Then I will start writing. I will write at least 4 pages in 12 points a day. I can make it sure by checking how many pages I wrote everyday. I think I'll be able to do it, because the story that I'm going to write isn't much long. And I wrote short stories before for our school's year book. I think writing a story in English is a good way to improve my English, writing skills, and my creativity. I will write a book every morning and night.
My third goal is to take the stairs when I need to get to the 11th and 12th floors in the dormitory. I will take the stairs to get to the 11th and 12th floors for meals or studying. And I will take the stairs to get to my room on the 6th floor. I will check how much I became healthier by climbing mountain Ji-ri on the last day of the 30 days. Maybe I will be healthier that time. So if my efforts work, I will be able to climb it easily. I think I'll be able to do it, because I took stairs to get to the 11th and 12th floors several times before. I have heard that taking stairs instead of elevators is good for our health. I will take the stairs everyday when I go to the 11th and 12th floors.

My History Presentation

History Presentation- Rome's language

I'm Rachell Lim. I am going to tell you about Rome's language. The native language of the Romans was Latin, an Italic language in the Indo- European family. Several forms of Latin existed, and the language evolved over time, finally becoming the Romance language spoken today. The Latin alphabet is based on the old Italic alphabet, which is turn derived from the Greek alphabet.
Initially, older forms of Latin rely little on word orders. But like other Indo- European languages, Latin acquired the arranged word orders.
Although, surviving Latin literature consists almost entirely of Classical Latin, an artificial and polished literary language from the 1st century BC, the actual spoken language of Roman Empire was Vulgar Latin, which differed from Classical Latin in grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation.
Also, although Latin remained the main written language of the Roman Empire, Greek came to be the language spoken by the well- educated elite. In the eastern half of the Roman Empire, which became the Byzantine Empire, Greek was the main lingua franca as it had been since the time of Alexander the Great, while the Roman goverment and its soldiers mostly used Latin. Eventually, Latin and Greek were both the official written and spoken language of Eastern Roman Empire, while the various dialects of Vulgar Latin used in western Roman Empire evolved into the modern Romance Languages still used today.
Over time, Vulgar Latin evolved and dialectized in different locations, gradually shifting into a number of distinct Romance languages beginning in around the 9th centry. These languages include French, Portuguese, Romanian and Spanish.
When William the conqueror invaded England from Normandy in 1066, he brought with him a number of people who spoke Anglo- Norman French, a Romance language derived from Latin. And the number of Latinate words increased in English through borrowing during this Middle English period. The revival of interest in classical culture led to a great deal of adaptation of words from Classical Latin authors into English. Latin continues to see heavy use in religious, legal, scientific language, and in learning.
